I have been buying FLSmidth parts and scheduling FLSmidth service since 2020, and my blunt conclusion is this: FLSmidth adds the most value when you treat it as a process partner, not a parts vendor. But a word of caution: the “solution” only exists if you use it. If you buy a FLSmidth crusher or feeder breaker and never ask their process engineers a question, you have bought a machine like any other machine. You will pay for engineering breadth you never used, which is not a smart way to spend capital.
The FLSmidth feeder breaker does two jobs at once: it receives material, feeds it onto a downstream conveyor at a controlled rate, and reduces the top size of that material so the belt and the rest of the plant can handle it. It uses rotating breaker elements mounted on a feed mechanism, and it is intended for relatively soft or friable materials—coal, soft limestone, overburden, and similar feeds. It is not a replacement for a jaw or gyratory crusher in a hard-rock application.
That distinction seems obvious, but I have watched people price feeder breakers without checking whether the machine class fits their rock. You can order a bigger motor and a heavier frame, but if the material is too hard or abrasive for the breaker concept, no amount of brand engineering makes it the right call. An independent machine shop can make most parts; it cannot give you the original design intent and the duty limits that came with it.
